A bookshop born from a bet, that of its founder, Désiré Kabale, who in 1996 decided to dedicate a section of his provate library (ope to the public) in a bookstore to self-finance the purchase of books. A risky choice, but apt, that after twenty years we are here to tell it.

In 2000 Désiré decides to end his library activity and concentrate on the book section in order to have relatively quick access to a wide range of books, which would have otherwise been impossible, given the limited finds enjoyed by libraries. A chain effect, with unthinkable consequences, up to the current headquarters in Bukavu, where reading is shares, and we know well how access to reading in many parts to the world, especially in Africa, is not obvious.

BooktoMi has chosen Livres pour les grands lacs  for the passion of this who works there that goes far beyond the work commitment for simple monetary again. If we also consider the geopolitical reality where Bukavu is located, a border area historically subject to massive migratory flows of people fleeing was and disease, one cannot but look with esteem at a library that has managed to remain open. A story from other times, so we are happy to be able to work with them.

In the EVENTS section of BooktoMi you will find the program of Livres pour les grands lacs bookshop.
